cleaning up after your dog.
The City of Casey urges dog owners to exhibit responsibility for not only their dogs' behaviours, but also what their dog leaves behind when out and about in the community. Let's unite by observing this courtesy and responsibility for the good of all, and show our local Council and community members that dog-owners are proud of their community facilities, courteous and considerate of others who also wish to enjoy them as we do.
"Dog walkers reminded to clean up after their pets
MEDIA RELEASE: 29 APRIL 2009
The City of Casey is reminding residents to clean up after their dogs
if they soil in the streets. Dog poo in our streets, parks and reserves
is smelly, unsightly and very unpleasant to step in!
City of Casey Manager Engineering and Environment David Richardson
said nowadays, it is accepted that cleaning up after dogs is part of
being a responsible pet owner, in your backyard, on the nature strip,
or in a local park.
‘Dog poo contains a lot of bacteria, and sometimes roundworm, which
can be harmful to humans, or washed down our drains and into our
waterways causing health concerns’, said Mr Richardson.
Under Council’s local law, dog owners can be fined $500 if they are caught not picking up their dog’s poo in a public place.
Cleaning up after your dog is easy. You can use plastic bags, preferably biodegradable ones, bags, trowels or pooper scoopers.
Products are available that attach to your dog’s leash to store
plastic bags for use during walks. Keeping these items with your leash
is a good reminder to take them with you.
Dog poo can be disposed of in residents’ domestic waste bins, a dog litter bin, certain types of worm farms or compost bins.
Dog waste bags and bins are located at the following Council reserves:
- Ray Bastin Reserve, Narre Warren
- Sydney Pargeter Reserve, Endeavour Hills
- Wilson Botanic Park, Berwick.
For further information you can contact the City of Casey on 9705 5200."
